Bio: (4/08)
Born in Strasbourg, France, Serge Mazerand discovered both the piano and fishing at age five. He trained classically into his teens and strangely enough the piano then took backstage in favor of other interests. Serge was drawn into a long period of international business traveling during which he played the piano –occasionally--- in piano bars and fished the seas, rivers and lakes of the world.
It is not a coincidence that, some fifty years later, his life would still be dominated by these two passions which influenced the little french boy’s life debut.
With his beautiful wife Pilar, Serge decided to settle in Smithers, British Columbia, on the banks of a world class steelhead river. There he bought a Sauter Grand and resumed playing the piano with a vengeance.
Still enjoying his classics he nevertheless increasingly listens to his inner voice and improvises freely, often while watching the river flow by his studio’s window. “It is the river”, Serge says, “that inspires me and taught me many things about life!”.
He has recorded five CDs , Impromptu by the River , Enchanted River and then a third album, Cheers, still featuring his flowing style, but this time inspired by a visit to the Okanagan wine country.
Recently Serge created a label of relaxing music called Keys to Serenity, relaxing music by nature. He has regrouped three albums under this label, Enchanted River, Oceaness and his most recent recording, Reverie. His “trademark” is to play in a totally improvisational way, inspired by a lifelong kinship with nature.
When he is not busy creating music or fly fishing around the world, Serge also loves to entertain and play impromptu on stage, never bogged down by a program. His music comes in direct line from the heart and is enjoyed by piano lovers all over.
