Bio:

Janice was drawn to the piano from as early as she can remember, completely fascinated by the keyboard. At around the age of six, Janice

began to play by ear the music she heard around her. A year later she began formal lessons, and from the age of 10 on, you could find her on the

piano bench at church every Sunday, accompanying the worshipers at her tiny church. One of her favorite memories is of playing the piano in the

living room, her mom and dad singing along.

Not long after, Janice's teacher discovered a unique gift: perfect pitch. Janice is able to identify individual notes and chords played on various

instruments, as well as the key any particular piece of music is played in, just by listening to the music. As improvisation and playing by ear came so naturally to her, learning the intricacies of classical music was a challenge, but a challenge she loved.

In high school and college, she studied and performed the works of the masters: Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Debussy. She studied

piano at the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts as well as the Interlochen Center for the Arts. In 1988, Janice received statewide

recognition after winning the South Carolina Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition. She graduated with honor from the Wheaton College

Conservatory, all the while playing in church nearly every Sunday, often performing her own compositions.

With a blend of God-given gifts, much training, and years of practice, she developed her own style:  the artistry of Classical music combined with the beauty of New Age piano, arrangements played with sensitivity and grace. Original melodies woven with old ones, new chords added  to create something new out of something familiar.

Janice's first CD "Rest Assured - Hymns on Piano" was originally released several years ago, when her children were quite small. As she and her husband rocked them before bedtime at night, quiet music often was just what was needed to end a busy day with three little ones. "Rest Assured" began as a project of hymns played with these kinds of quiet moments in mind.

Janice quickly realized that children weren't the only ones who needed quiet, relaxing music. Many people requested more music and shared their

stories about how this CD provided peace and comfort during difficult times.

Janice's family experienced this as her father bravely faced his battle with cancer. Music and scripture comforted them during dark days. Words to new songs and old hymns took on deeper meanings, and the music that was so reassuring during that difficult time continues to bring back memories of God's faithfulness and presence throughout that struggle.

Janice's newest CD, “Measures of Grace,” is also a project of her interpretations of great hymns, and includes her arrangement of the choral masterpiece, "The Majesty and Glory of Your Name," which sets to music the text of Psalm 8.
